IESE Objectives & Outcomes

Objectives

General Engineering

To prepare students for successful careers by providing:

  1. a comprehensive education that includes in-depth instruction in the major areas of General Engineering.
  2. an emphasis on analysis and problem solving and exposure to open-ended problems and design methods.
  3. courses taught in a manner that fosters teamwork, communication skills, and individual professionalism, including ethics and environmental awareness.
  4. preparation for a lifetime of continued learning and leadership through classroom experiences, along with outside activities.
  5. the ethical awareness to recognize their responsibilities to society while at the same time making significant contributions in their chosen fields.
  6. the environment to cultivate and grow the innovative engineering, design, problem solving, and business skills needed to develop and bring to market competitive products and services for the benefit of society.
  7. the environment to develop the character, self-reliance, leadership, and entrepreneurial skills through a high degree of choice, involvement, and responsibility for their education.

Industrial Engineering

To prepare students for successful careers by providing:

  1. a rigorous background in mathematics and physical sciences
  2. the analytical, computational, experimental, and methodological tools to define complex problems and create viable solutions
  3. communication and teamwork skills
  4. an understanding of professional responsibilities with respect to societal and ethical impacts of their actions
  5. a recognition of the need for, and the skills to engage in, life-long learning

Outcomes

General Engineering

GE graduates should have:

  1. An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering.
  2. An ability to design and conduct experiments as well as to analyze and interpret data.
  3. An ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs.
  4. An ability to function on multidisciplinary teams.
  5. An ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems.
  6. An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility.
  7. An ability to communicate effectively.
  8. The broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global and societal context.
  9. A recognition of the need for and ability to engage in life-long learning.
  10. A knowledge of contemporary issues.
  11. An ability to use techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
  12. An ability to understand how to apply business fundamentals to promote utilization of new technology.
  13. An ability to engage in entrepreneurship.
  14. An ability to succeed in engineering and nonengineering careers.

Industrial Engineering

IE graduates should have:
