Adjunct Professor
Mark G. Strauss, Ph.D. is an Adjunct Full Professor of IESE and joined the faculty in 1987 after receiving his Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington and the University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas. While in Texas, he worked at Parkland Hospital and the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Dallas investigating the use of resonance to quantify fracture healing in bones. He obtained his master's degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Virginia where he was a fellow in Rehabilitation Engineering. He also worked with the Department of Plastic Surgery to examine the properties of suture and surgical tapes. His B.S. degree is in Mechanical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute on New York.
Professor Strauss' research has included human joint biomechanics and limb kinetics, human factors design for persons with impaired function, the biomechanics of injury, large vehicle dynamics, air turbulence and braking systems. He has received over $2,000,000 in funded research, and participates in several professional organizations including: The American Society of Biomechanics, Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, American Association for Automotive Medicine, SAE and IEEE. He reviews papers for journals and proposals for the National Science Foundation.
Dr. Strauss spends most of his time at a forensic engineering company in Champaign named Ruhl Forensic, Inc. He travels throughout the country investigating and reconstruction equipment failures, accidents and injuries.
