Harry E. Cook

Professor Emeritus

Dr. H. E. Cook is Professor Emeritus, Department of Industrial and Enterprise Systems Engineering, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  He has also held a variety of research, engineering and management positions during 17 years in the automotive industry at Ford and Chrysler and  has served on General Motors Science Advisory Committee.  He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the Society of Automotive Engineers, and a Fellow of ASM.  He has published over 40 research papers and books on materials science and engineering, marketing research, customer value, pricing, product demand, systems engineering, product management, Design for Six Sigma and quality management.  He is the lead developer of the Direct Value Method of marketing research, which is used to measure customer value in $ with minimal cognitive stress.  He has written two books on product and quality management: Product Management published by Kluwer Academic Publishers, 1997; and Design for Six Sigma as Strategic Experimentation, published by ASQ, 2005 and a third book with co-author L.A. Wissmann entitled Value Driven Product Planning and Systems Engineering published in 2007 by Springer-Verlag.
