Carolyn
Beck
Associate Professor
Carolyn Beck joined the Department in August
1999. She received a B.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering
from the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, in 1984,
an M.S. degree, also in Electrical and Computer Engineering, from Carnegie
Mellon University in 1985, and a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering
from the California Institute of Technology in 1996.
From 1985 through
1989, Dr. Beck was a Research and Development Engineer
for Hewlett-Packard in Santa Clara, CA. She was a post-doctoral
research assistant at Lund Institute of Technology in Sweden for
the first
half of 1996, after which she was a faculty member of the Department
of Electrical
Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh from September 1996
through July 1999.
Her primary research interests lie in the development
of modeling and control methods for complex systems, with applications
in bioengineering
and networked control systems.
Dr. Beck received the National
Science Foundation CAREER Award in 1998, and the Office of Naval
Research Young Investigator
Award in 2001.
